World Cup Trophies Stolen |
By Olayinka AbiolaJust one day after the England National team fell prey to thieves by staff at its luxury hotel in Rustenburg, South Africa, police in Johannesburg have confirmed that FIFA’s temporary headquarters office was broken into.According to a report from goal.com the perpetrators made off with replica trophies meant for the Soccer City final on July 11th. The police reported that the World Cup trophies have been stolen from FIFA’s office.In goal.com report the National police commissioner Bheki Cele was quoted saying: “We knew that there was a theft and we are investigating.”La Repubblica claims the trophies were replicas of the cup that will take centre stage at the Soccer City final in Johannesburg on July 11.As well as the trophies, sports equipment was also lifted by the thieves.The police also confirmed that 316 people, 207 of South African origin, have been arrested for World Cup-related crimes since the start of the tournament.
