The training will be held under the sponsorship of CDB’s training facility, the Caribbean Technological Consultancy Services (CTCS) network, in collaboration with the National Entrepreneurial Development Division, (NEDD) of the Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Expressing her delight at this disclosure via a communiqué is Kittitian hairstylist, Cindy James of Beauty World. She indicated that she feels honoured and privileged that the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has chosen her business premises to be the venue of “Basic Hairdressing Techniques” training. Thrilled that other women will benefit from sponsored training like she did, Cindy said in an interview, “I feel privileged and honored.” Ten women have been selected to attend training sessions from 9.00 a.m to 4.30 p.m Monday to Friday at CJ’s Beauty World, Hamilton Street, Hermitage, Cayon. A CDB scholarship enabled Cindy to receive a two-year training at Khadija’s International Beauty Salon and Scalp Clinic in Barbados under the tutelage of a reputed trainer, Dr.Carol Williams who is the main facilitator at the CDB sponsored “Basic Hairdressing Techniques,” through which ten women will be equipped with the initial skills. This will be the first level of training. Advanced training will continually be offered to the trainees. The communiqué indicated further that Cindy’s goal to become a hairstylist dates back as far as her youthful days. Like many other little girls, she would comb her dolls’ hair. When she grew a little older and was able to comb her own hair, many at school and in her family circle would marvel at her in-born skills. A time came when she was old enough to go to hair dressers. She would watch keenly to see exactly what they were doing. One day, her aunt, Rhoda Payne, happened to see a unique hair do on Cindy. Amazed at Cindy’s talent in hair dressing techniques, Payne told Cindy’s mother, “You see that little girl there, she will be a force to reckon with.” Cindy kept this close to her heart and mind. “It is very important to say positive things to children,” she said. Her aunt’s statement energised her. The positive words continued to awaken the passion she had in perfecting her in-born talents in hair dressing. At the same time, her clientele base was growing at a great speed and it became impossible for her to handle the increasing number of clients from her family home. At around this time she was an employee at the Four Seasons airport desk. The Resort made her redundant. This was a blessing in disguise. After being laid off, a person noticed a lovely hair style on her. The person also learnt of her skills in pedicures and manicures. The unnamed person recommended her to the Caribbean Development Bank which sponsored her to train in Barbados. CDB facilitated her with air fare, accommodation costs, food and ground transportation. She is very grateful that CDB continues to follow her up even after completing her training in Barbados. Cindy a mother of two acquired her own business premises in December 2009. She indicated that hard work and determination has enabled her to establish her own business. The women who complete the workshop will receive certificates. She is hopeful that the women will become entrepreneurs and excel in hair dressing. Her business motto is “Beauty With Excellence. Your Hair Is An Expression Of You. She is very grateful to her husband Arnold Carey who she said supports her in all her endeavors’, “I could not ask the Lord for a better husband.” Asked why women take interest in their hair, Cindy explained that a woman’s physical beauty is in her hair.
